Curriculum vitae and resumes are common terms spoken by most job hunting people across the globe. Many interviews rely on the CV presented by the applicant. It is therefore important to be keen and clear on the content of the CV. Below are five points to consider when writing an appealing CV.
1. Personal profile
Ensure that your name, sex, date of birth, nationality and any other relevant personal information are presented in a good format. There is no need to state your age and state your year of birth. Some people prefer writing their names as the title of the CV, this is acceptable as long as the name is written boldly to avoid confusing the interviewer or the potential employer.
2. Career Objective
Depending on the type of job one is applying, career objectives differ. This is a pivotal area where you need to align your skills and knowledge and the job you are seeking after. For example an accountant seeking for employment at a local bank may state his objective as "To impact the economic sphere of the  society positively with the acquired skills and knowledge."Avoid exaggerations and understatements. In as much as you need to show the employer your competence, be real.
3. Education Background
This is an important tool to show the interviewer what knowledge you posses and what grades you acquired. The correct order should be stating your recent education, as you progress with the former education awards. For example a University graduate should start by stating the University degree acquired followed by the attended secondary school and later primary school. However, it is important to note that the duration or years spent in a learning institution should be stated clearly. Names of the learning institution should also be stated
4. Work experience
If the applicant posses any relevant work experience, then it should be stated clearly starting with the most recent ones. Duration spent in attending to given duties should also be stated. Avoid ambiguity in this area too in order to capture vital details clearly. Remember this area gives the employer more confidence that you are capable in attending to a given task. No matter how small a given work experience may seem to be, do not neglect capturing it in the CV.
5. Referees
Many a time, we make mistakes in this area because we assume vital information regarding our referees. For example a graduate teacher seeking employment as a teacher in a government school should consider writing headteachers of his or her previous teaching schools as the referees, giving their active phone numbers, email addresses and postal addresses if possible. Avoid giving postal addresses only because most of the time communication via postal offices is slower compared to phone calls or email messages. Another important thing to note is that providing relevant referees according to the job being sought. For instance a banker applying for a teller cashier job in a local SACCO should focus his or her mind on mentioning referees associated with banking and not other fields that he may have experience in like teaching.
Lastly, proofread your CV not to make small avoidable mistakes caused by recklessness.
