It has not been easy as we count twenty-nine
years Since your soil was soaked with blood and tears The tensions escalated
after the plane crushed It was the beginning of the unending bloodshed It was
not easy for the minority, havoc wrecked The world with little input just
watched It is buried now; the wind has made it blow Focus on unity and
prosperity. It breeds purity The city of a thousand hills, with beehive of
activities It has the memories, those that you wish not to remember Your
children have the stories, of what happened in the dark chambers They are
working on the reformation, together with reconciliation Your soil is now free,
from blood and tears; it is having a new visitor Food crops from bananas and
cassava, vegetables and excess milk from the cattle The air is fresh; Akagera
River is clear as crystal The people are drinking from it, they are now happy
They fear no more, they have forgiven and shun tribalism Comparison and social
stratification has been buried Tons of sand have covered them and nationalism
has been appraised Your brothers from the continent are elated, your status
elevated The leader it is, he is a man of outstanding attributes He has risen
you from shackles, by solving complicated disputes All for your sake, he loves
you more than he does to himself You are now peaceful, applause for his
unwavering dedication Kigali is smiling; it is growing and glowing, oh! The
cleanest city It is where your people converge, every seventh of the fourth
month To continue the journey, that has been on since your liberation Unite and
renew, for it is what has remained of you to do Long live Rwanda! Long live
Rwandese! Long live "Abanyrwanda!" Peace be with you! "Harimo kuba
Abanyarwand!N'amahoro kuba nawe!"
