IMPORTANCE OF
EDUCATING A
GIRL CHILD AND WHY
WOMEN SHOULD BE EMPOWERED
The right to education, which
is a fundamental human right,
is frequently denied
to girls in some African countries. When families have shortage of resources and have to make a choice of who to educate
either a girl or a boy child, it
is always the boy that is chosen
to attend school.
Many girls are prevented from getting the education entitled to them because families often send their daughter out to work at a young age so that they can get the additional income they may need to exist beyond subsistence levels and finance the education of the sons.
Girl’s education is like sowing the seed,
which gives rise to revitalized, cheerful and fully-grown family. Educated women have the capacity to bring social,
economic and political
changes. Denial to education opportunities denies the girl child the ability to realize her full potential skills needed to advance their status in the society. Educating a girl child will give her the full potential to think critically, question and inclusively make decisions.
Women’s education goes a
long way to alleviate poverty in
the community. Some educated women have
come up with poverty alleviation schemes like forming self-help groups in which
they contribute to the betterment of their lives.
others contribute money equally at an interval
time and later divide the money equally
at the end of a certain period of time while others
venture into poultry farming
and dairy farming.
These experiences greatly
reveal that women education can positively affect
poverty alleviation in the society.
Educated women are more informed about the
rights of women for justice. Out of all deprived groups in the world, women have suffered the most. Their
suffering knew no bounds based on culture, race, region or religion.
They have been victims
of violence, rape, poverty, malnutrition and ill treatment. Educated women are in the fight for all the suffering by raising their voices with conviction about the vices women go through.
Women are empowered through education, for example in
most companies and leading business
firms, we can often find the top most positions occupied
by women. They inspire the underprivileged ones to try hard and become a successful person on life.
Women empowerment is not only necessary for oneself, but also for the society. An empowered woman can only teach others about what
difference a slight change in attitude can bring to the society. Women are earning as much as their spouses do, their
employment nonetheless adds substantially to the families
and gives an economically advantage
over the family with only one breadwinner.
An empowered and educated woman is no more
like a burden to her family and society, she
educated people on their rights and become
aware of their duties as responsible citizens.
Thus, an empowered woman can actually
power the whole society and enable them to live to their
fullest potential and to own themselves.
In conclusion, given the situation of women’s
education and empowerment in the third world
countries, its importance cannot be overemphasized. The benefits of educating and empowering them
are immense to the society. Greg
Morteneon, the American humanitarian worker said, “Educate a man,
you educate one person, educate a woman you educate a complete family”.
