HOW TO TELL IF SOMEONE IS TELLING A LIE
Have you ever been lied to by someone you trust? Did you notice the lie immediately? If you did not, then here are some tips to help you detect a lie when conversing with someone. Number three will amaze you
1. Time taken to utter words
This might be mistaken for being a slow learner but its not actually the case. A good lier may take an abnormally longer time to respond to a question or contribute in a conversation. Most of the people who use this technique while lying hide their lies in slow speech to conceal their lies.
2. Repetition of words
This has mainly been used by sharp people. This technique while used might seem a weakness of the lier. He or she might use it to imply that the said words are purely true and that is why they are repeated. The one being lied too, rarely recognizes the lie because the repetition has made it appear a truth. A good number of intelligent people may opt to use this technique, so better be inquisitive with every statement uttered.
3. No consistent eye contact
This is the universally thought sign of detecting a lie. Most people who speak lies never maintain a consistent and focused eye contact. They may face a different direction to avoid your eye contact because of the guilt in them. For them to face away, they take time to draft a lie in order to avoid confusion when looking at you. However, not all people who face in a different direction during a conversation are not truthful, some just meditate while others are naturally shy
4. Fumbling of words
Some people who are new at speaking lies are always caught easily with this technique. They find difficulties in looking for appropriate words to use as they try to be careful not to speak the truth. They fumble with words looking for the best ones that can defend their guilt. If you are not keen enough, you may think that they are stammerers.
5. Body language
When lying, most people do not maintain a fixed posture. If you converse while standing, they tend to look for somewhere to hold onto, maybe a chair or table just to gain strength because the lies are eating their energies. They are never comfortable, their bodies wriggle and fidget as their hands try to move across their face as if wiping dust or sweat. Remember, this is a technique and not the sole symptoms of detecting a lie.
Having illustrated the tips of detecting a lie, it is prudent to say that some of these characteristics or features expressed might be due to other weaknesses like poor communication skills or issues such as mental redundancy . Let us not conclude without proper analysis.
